Our first Ru CH!
Heidi Sormunen and Meri (Afterglow Hail Mary) headed out to a show in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 10th. They came home from the successful trip bearing a brand new title: Russian Champion! Thanks and congratulations are once again in order to Meri's co-owner Heidi!
We didn't manage to get a good picture of Meri from the trip, but above's a picture of the two taken by Elina Kempas last spring.

Routa - a new import!
Last night around 1 AM we were wandering around Helsinki-Vantaa airport to pick up the newest addition to our family. We finally managed to find him irregardless of the poor directions we were given. Here's our first impression on the little guy:
He was the bravest little boy in his flight carriage, eagerly looking around from the crate when the cargo worker brought him to us on his forklift (and yes, he actually carried a puppy on a forklift!).
Here he is, Routa, aka Razmus Akai Oujisama Go with his co-owner Riina Haapakallio. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Kevin Carroll of Razmus Akitas in Ireland for letting us have this little prince!
You can find Routa's pedigree on his own page on our main website.

Akita theme day 27.11.
Last Sunday a local pet store (Faunatar Arabia) held a theme day for Akitas, so of course we were there to show ours off. We took Kukka and Lumi with us, and later on Usva and Utu also joined us. Lots of people came in during the day and got to know the breed and our dogs better. All in all, I'd say it was a success :)

Seinäjoki INT
We headed up to Seinäjoki on October 29th with Kukka (C's Flower Dance). Roku (C's Name of the Game) and Tuuli (C's Non-Stop Song) came with their respective owners, and we also had our friend's American Cocker Tahiti (Heavenly Way's Career Girl) with us. Unfortunately the rings happened to be on at the exact same time, so I couldn't show Tahiti. Luckily we found Merja Koskela to show her, and she ended up placing 2nd best female under judge Mia Sandgren from Sweden. Congrats to Tahiti's owner Marita Kaasalainen and breeder Karita Kempas!
And now to our results. Judging Akitas was Gunilla Sandberg, also from Sweden, and she did not hand out "excellents" to just any dog. Our juniors had a bit too much fun in the ring with me, and neither of them felt like standing still for more than half a second. Roku got a "very good", as did all the males that day. Tuuli got a "good", but seeing as this was only her first official show, we'll see how she turns out later.
Kukka had better success in the ring, she made an impression on the judge by behaving herself (unlike the juniors...). She got an "excellent", and was the only Akita to get a CQ (certificate quality), won her class, was placed best female, and finally Best of Breed!

Akita specialty show
This Sunday (September 18th) was our specialty show for Akitas in Heinola. Judging was Juha Putkonen from Finland, and we had some nice results. Roku, Candida's Name of the Game, was shown for the very first time. He got an excellent critique, and won his class of three.
Kukka, Candida's Flower Dance, returned to the show ring after a two-year break. She also got an excellent critique and won her class, and went on to win Best Female and finally Best of Breed!
